Watermelon is suitable for planting in low to high altitudes of 600 m above sea level. Soil condition is quite loose, rich in organic materials, not acidic soil, and dried garden/milk soil. Suitable on sandy soil types with soil acidity pH 6-6.7.

  • The seeds that have come out of the prospective roots are 2 mm seedling in polybags as deep as 1-1.5 cm.
  • Nursery polybags are placed in a row and exposed to full sunlight
  • Watering 1-2 times a day and at the age of 12-14 days seedlings are ready to be planted into the land

PLANTING PROCESSING for Watermelon – Land Clearing

  • Perform piracy as deep as 30 cm and then smoothed and flattened.
  • Clear the land from the remains of rooting and stone.
  • Make a 1 m wide, 0.5 m high, and 2 m wide.
  • Give lime dolomite to achieve pH 6-6.7
  • Give manure that has been mixed Solbi Agro ( 1lt Solbi Agro for 1-ton manure), a week before planting.
  • Basic fertilization with TSP 200 kg / ha, ZA 140 kg / ha and KCL 130 kg / ha.
  • Bewith needs to be given mulch plastic with a width of 110-150 cm to help reduce water evaporation and the growth of other grinding plants.

  • Carried out one week before planting with a depth of 8 cm, with a distance of 20-30 cm from the edge of the landscape.
  • Planting distance between holes 90-100 cm.
  • Planting should be morning or afternoon then watering until quite wet.

1. Counseling

  • Counseling is carried out 3-5 days after planting.

  • Weed by setting up the primary branch and maintain only 2-3 branches without cutting the secondary branch.
  • The end of the second branch is left with 2 leaves.
  • Secondary branches that grow on the existing segments of the fruit are cut so as not to interfere with the growth of the fruit.
  • Do the gluing of young shoots that are useless because it affects the growth of the fruit.

3. Watering and Watering Watermelon Plants

  • Irrigation is carried out by moistening the channel between the pipes by a flush with pipes or drilled with a time of 4-6 days.
  • The watering volume should not be excessive.

4. Fertilization of Watermelon Plants

  • Fertilization one week after planting using ZA 40 kg/ha, KCL 140 kg/ha
  • Fertilization of watermelons two weeks after planting using ZA 120 kg/ha, TSP 85 kg/ha, KCL 170 kg/ha.
  • Watermelon fertilization when flowering using ZA 130 kg/ha, KCL 30 kg/ha
  • Do spraying Solbi Agro with a dose of 500 ml dissolved with 200 liters of water, and sprayed evenly every 2 weeks.

5. Sort Watermelon Fruit

  • Choose a fairly large fruit round well and not defective, located between 1-1.5 m from the rooting of the plant.
  • Leave only 1-2 pieces, others in the trim.
  • If the weight of the fruit is almost 2 kg, go back and forth for the fruit to get sun lighting and flat color.

Watermelon Plant Pests

1. Thrips

  • The small size of slim, pale yellow color is blackish, has a murmur of the body of the segments.
  • The way of transmission wanders at night, settles, and breeds.
Control: spray the recommended insecticide for this pest.

2. Leaf-Destroying Caterpillars

  • Green with black/green stripes with yellow stripes,
  • Symptoms: leaves are eaten until the wax layer remains and looks from afar like perforated.
Control: spray the recommended insecticide for this pest.

3. Mites

  • Small red animals are slightly yellowish/greenish in size sucking on plant fluids.
  • The sign, it appears that the nets of this animal's nest under the surface of the leaves, the color of the leaves will pale.
Control: spray the recommended insecticide for this pest.

Control: spray recommended insecticides for this pest.

Watermelon Plant Disease

  • Withered FusariumBabys: the environment/situation that allows the fungus to grow (too humid air). Symptoms: decay in plants that were once dense and fertile.
  • by going about planting and maintaining environmental conditions, planting on new areas that have not been planted,
  • recommended fungicide administration for this disease.
  • Leaf Spotting Causes: spores of disease seedlings carried by the wind from other stricken plants. Symptoms: the surface of the leaves there are yellow patches and then brown eventually dries and dies, or there are fine tufts of gray/purple color.
Control: as in the withering disease fusarium.
  • Anthrax Causes: such as withered fusarium disease. Symptoms: the leaves have seen brown patches that eventually turn reddish and eventually the leaves die. When attacking the fruit, it appears that the pink round that is long overtime is expanding.
Control: such as disease control withering fusarium.
  • Rotten seedlings Attack on the seeds that are being seeded. Symptoms: the stem of the seedlings is brown, vines and crumbs then die.
Control: the administration of recommended fungicides for this disease.
  • Rotten Fruit Causes: fungi/pathogenic bacteria that infect the fruit ahead of cooking and are active after the fruit begins to be picked.
Control: avoid and prevent damage to the skin of the fruit, both during transport and storage, fruit picking is carried out during the day not cloudy/rainy.
  • Rust Leaf Causes: viruses carried by plant pests that develop on the leaves of plants. Symptoms: blistered leaves, stripes, prone to shape, dwarf plants, and longitudinal vines on the stems.
Control: just like the withering disease fusarium.
